What is the PicoWay® Laser?

The PicoWay® laser is an FDA-approved, laser treatment system developed by Candela USA. Utilizing picosecond (trillionths of a second) laser technology, PicoWay® is designed to deliver ultra-short pulses of energy into the skin. This rapid energy transfer effectively breaks down pigmentation and stimulates collagen production without causing significant damage to the surrounding skin tissue.

What Can The PicoWay® Laser Be Used For?

Skin rejuvenation is a broad term that encompasses several goals: improving skin texture, reducing signs of aging, and enhancing overall skin health. The PicoWay® laser achieves these aims through the stimulation of collagen and elastin production. These are crucial proteins responsible for maintaining the skin’s structure, elasticity, and youthful appearance. By targeting the deeper layers of the skin, the PicoWay® laser triggers a natural regenerative process, leading to smoother, firmer, and more vibrant skin over time.

The PicoWay® laser can treat a range of pigmentation issues, including age spots, sun spots, and freckles. These typically result from an overproduction of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin, hair, and eye colour. The PicoWay® laser can target and fragment the excess pigment, allowing the body’s natural processes to eliminate these particles gradually. Over a series of treatments, this results in a more uniform, balanced skin tone.

Birthmarks, such as café-au-lait spots or pigmented nevi, can be treated with the PicoWay® laser. The laser targets the pigment within the birthmark and fragments it into smaller particles. The body’s lymphatic system then gradually removes these particles, leading to the lightening or complete removal of the birthmark over time. This offers a non-invasive solution for those seeking to remove or reduce the appearance of birthmarks.

Tattoos are composed of pigment particles suspended in the skin, and the PicoWay® laser is adept at breaking these particles down. Notably, the PicoWay® laser’s short pulses can target a wide range of tattoo inks, even those with traditionally difficult-to-remove colours. Over several treatment sessions, the fragmented ink particles are naturally eliminated by the body’s immune system, leading to the gradual fading and potential
